The Red Heavies have welcomed a new coaching team for the 2025 Women's Rugby Program.
Former Red Heavies player, Duncan Bird will be Head Coach, with Ross Bloomfield (Defence) and former Wallaroo, Averyl Mitchell (Forwards Coach) as his assistants.
Duncan started playing at the Heavies in 2010 and played through to 2019 and began coaching the Women's 7's team in 2016 before coaching the inaugural Junior Heavies in 2018 and 2019. In 2023 and 2024 he coached 3rd and 4th grade respectively at the Heavies.
Ross played his rugby on the NSW South Coast before moving to Brisbane in 2013. He turned his hand to coaching in 2020 at Easts, winning an undefeated 5th Grade Premiership, before moving to the Red Heavies last year and coaching 3rd Grade with Duncan.
Former Reds and Wallaroo player, Averyl made her Test debut as hooker in 2019. Unfortunately she had to hang up her boots at the tender age of 26, due to numerous concussions. Averyl then turned her hand to coaching with the Reds Development squad last year as well as shadowing the Red Heavies 1st Grade squad.
With the women's team in full swing, we invite players of any rugby ability to come and join.
Training is on Tuesday and Thursday from 6.30pm.
